CONDUCTOR HOLE
- Is a large diameter hole, lined with pipe, also called a starter hole, and varies in depth depending on the local geology. This pipe is cemented in place to allow for usual oil and gas operations.
MOUSE HOLE
- A shallow bored hole under the derrick substructure in which a single pipe joint is temporarily stored to facilitate connections.
CONDUCTOR PIPE
- Is a large diameter pile that is set into the ground to provide the initial stable structural foundation for a borehole or oil well.
SURFACE CASING
- The first string of casing put into a well. Surface casing is cemented into bedrock and serves to shut out shallow water formations and as a foundation for well control during drilling operations.
CELLAR HOLE
- This is generally a 2 metre wide by 1 metre deep hole that provides a safe working area during drilling operations.
AUGER
- A drilling tool attached to kelly of drill unit by which drilled cuttings are removed from bored hole.
RAT HOLE
- A shallow bored hole under the derrick substructure in which the kelly is temporarily stored when running pipe in or out of the hole.
LINER PIPE
- Is a pipe placed into the well’s borehole to prevent loose sediment from falling into the well until conductor is set and cemented in place.
